Chapel for all people

Chapel at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and MortuaryWe are non-denominational and happy to work with all faiths, backgrounds and cultures. Though we do have our own cemetery, we are also able to coordinate with any cemetery you choose. We recently remodeled our chapel to reflect the beauty of the surrounding cemetery. Designed as an open space with high ceilings, it is flooded with natural light.

The chapel seats roughly 100 people and features windows and outdoor benches that overlook the scenic cemetery grounds. Recent improvements allow us to be more adaptable and versatile for the diverse needs of today’s families, including flexible seating. There is also a 30-foot rock wall inside of the chapel, giving it a distinct natural flare.

History

Mausoleum interior at Pierce Bros. Westwood Memorial Park. Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Mortuary and Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park have been pillars of the Greater Los Angeles community for more than 100 years. Officially established in the state of California in 1905 under the name Sunset Cemetery, the earliest on-site burials date back to the 1880s. In 1926, the cemetery was renamed Westwood Memorial Park. During this time, we began serving the growing nearby community of UCLA. In 1952, our first mausoleum was built on the grounds—now there are 10 beautiful mausoleums throughout the park.

Construction of the chapel

In 1961, the chapel was built on the south side of the cemetery property. This chapel has a 30-foot white quartz wall, high ceilings and a distinctly open design that allows for plenty of natural light. The chapel can seat more than 100 people and accommodates flexible seating options.

Quality service today and tomorrow

In 1991, the funeral home and cemetery both joined the Dignity Memorial® network, which is the largest network of funeral, cremation and burial service providers in North America. Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Mortuary and Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park were honored in 2002 by The Cultural Heritage Commission of the City of Los Angeles.

Veteran funerals and community service

We are honored to support military families and veterans. Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Mortuary and Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park are also proud to participate in the Dignity Memorial® Homeless Veterans Burial Program (HVBP). Founded on the belief that every veteran deserves a dignified and honorable burial, the HVBP is a cooperative effort with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, local medical examiners, coroners, veterans advocates and veterans organizations. Through the HVBP, homeless and indigent veterans who have no family to claim them are identified and provided with proper military burials.

Also, each Memorial Day, we place miniature American flags on the graves of veterans. On Easter, we conduct a sunrise service for our Christian families.

Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Mortuary and Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park strongly believe in being active members of the community, and we are involved with the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce.
